writes to Kolahal Travel Guide: Date of visit: January 24, 2016 We visited Dooars starting from Hashimara Railway Station and returned from New Mal Junction Railway station. We hired a Bolero car from Hashimara Railway Station for our tour. We stayed at Jaldapara Tourist Lodge on January 24, 2016, at Murti Tourist Resort on January 25 and at Murti Banani (WBFDC) on January 26. The following is my comparison of the three lodges. Cleanliness of rooms - Murti Tourist Resort (WBTDC) is the best, Jaldapara Tourist Lodge (WBTDC) is the second best. Food Quality - Jaldapara Tourist Lodge is the best. Murti Banani is the second best. Murti Tourist Resort (WBTDC) had extremely slow service though it was overstaffed compared to the number of guests staying there at that time. Staff Behaviour - Jaldapara Tourist Lodge is the best, Murti Tourist Resort is the second best We booked elephant ride at a Jaldapara Tourist Lodge counter. Jaldapara Tourist Lodge staff was extremely courteous. They took pain to inform guests in all rooms that wild elephants had come near the back fence of Jaldapara Tourist Lodge so that no one missed the chance to see wild elephants even if they missed seeing animals on their Jeep or Elephant Safari. On Republic Day a Flag Hoisting ceremony was nicely organised at Murti Tourist Resort. Grounds were very well maintained. From Murti Banani we took an evening jeep safari to visit Gorumara National Forest. We are grateful that our children, though high-school going and college going, could spend few days without mobile and Internet for those three days - such was the beauty and abundance of nature there. |

writes to Kolahal Travel Guide: Date of visit: April 6, 2016 We arrived at Jaldapara by a personal taxi. The reception staff at Jaldapara was great in arranging a return taxi to Murti and the rate was reasonable. The room and bathroom at Jaldapara Tourist Lodge were excellent. The food at Jaldapara was good and service was good. Staff were great at Jaldapara. We took an Elephant safari at Jaldapara. It was great service and the staff were great. We wished we had an English speaking guide on the elephant though. Luckily we had some people on our elephant to translate some of the information. |

writes to Kolahal Travel Guide: Dates of visit: January 22, 2016 - January 23, 2016 We took a cab from New Mal Junction to arrive at Jaldapara. We had a refreshing experience in Jaldapara. We were more than satisfied with the cleanliness of Jaldapara Tourist Lodge. The food at Jaldapara Tourist Lodge restaurant was good. I liked the fact that food was not cooked in a lot of oil. Chinese preparations were average. The Lodge staff members were polite and courteous. We took an Elephant safari at Jaldapara. It's a good ride. We saw a rhino, a wild boar, a few peacocks, and birds. But the formal guide service was not good. |

writes to Kolahal Travel Guide: Dates of visit: June 7, 2015 - June 9, 2015 The room and bathroom at Jaldapara Tourist Lodge were clean. The food served at the restaurant was satisfactory. The Lodge staff members were polite and courteous. But they were not helpful regarding arranging Safari Rides. I had to involve my driver throughout the day for getting confirmation of Elephant Safari. |

writes to Kolahal Travel Guide: Dates of visit: September 16, 2014 - September 19, 2014 Jaldapara Tourist Lodge is situated within 2 minutes walking distance of the tourist office where all tickets are obtained for visiting the park nearby. The individual tourist huts are roomy, clean and of 3 to 3 and half star quality. The cool air-conditioning was wonderful and electric kettle was a nice touch also. The meals in the main building are basic, but there is plenty of selection. The staff are courteous and prompt with service – so much so they would take pre-orders the night before! I would definitely recommend the elephant safari over the jeep safari. The elephants were much quieter (and more fun) so we saw the wild rhinos. In the jeep safari we didn’t really see anything but peacocks and water buffalo. The elephant booking process was a matter of walking the 50 metres to the booking office during the opening hours and ‘waiting’ in line for your turn and your place. There were three time slots available (from memory) and you were allocated a time slot according to what was left. Get to the ticket office just before it opens so hopefully you don’t miss out. We went on the last time slot and saw two Rhinos – so earlier does not necessarily mean better. The jeep safari was nowhere near as good as the elephant safari – the jeeps make a lot of noise and must follow set roads – only the peacocks and bison were not afraid. I am not sure you can book elephants in advance – I doubt it as that would seem grossly unfair… |

I went to Jaldapara Tourist Lodge from Hasimara Railway Station.
There are jeeps/transport waiting at Hasimara station. The cost was about Rs 400 for a jeep. The drive took about 20 minutes.
From Jaldapara I went to Kalimpong. Jaldapara Toursit Lodge staff arranged a car (4 wheel drive) and driver to get to Kalimpong. The cost was about Rs 3300. The drive takes about 4 hours as the road is not good and still being repaired/upgraded. Lovely scenery on the way. Ask to stop at Coronation Bridge for photos and a break. |

"Bison in the park. I was surprised to see some wildlife on the jeep safari, thinking it would be very noisy. Sadly, as they were doing an elephant and rhino count the park was closed for two days and couldn’t get an elephant safari." Jane Aspinwall, January 20, 2015 |
