Bellevue Hotel, The Mall, Darjeeling |

Swati Ray Dey from Kolkata writes to Kolahal Travel Guide Dates of Visit: December 27 - 29, 2015 The room and bathroom were very clean. There was sufficient hot water - the geyser was good. Room heater - there is a little story. Though we booked a room with specific mention of a room heater, the manager first overlooked it and said that it would cost Rs. 200/- per night etc etc . We had to search for the email and show it to him. Then only the heater was arranged for no extra charge. The boy who delivered the heater told that it must not run all night and should be switched off after some time. Also we must not operate the control switches on the heater - we should only on-off from the switchboard. All these instructions were little uncomfortable for us. However eventually we kept it on all night and it worked without any complaint. In comparison, we stayed one night at The Sinclairs Resort and there with the room heater, we did not need to put on any warm clothes at the night - their heater was so powerful. Here our room was much bigger and the heater had less power. Consequently we had to go to bed with body-warmers combined with layers of clothing. So in short the hotel could do better in terms of the room heating arrangements. We stayed at Room 49 and there was a moderately good view of the mountains from the sitting room - though Kanchenjunga was blocked by a tree. The bedroom itself was facing the opposite direction - so no mountain view from there. There is a view point at the hotel which offers a great view. Since the hotel is bang on the mall, so location wise it is great. Now few negatives: a) The hotel does not have a full-fledged restaurant which itself is a small issue in the crowded winter Darjeeling where everything gets closed by 7-8 PM. b) They only serve beverages & snacks & breakfast - the room-service has scope for improvement. To serve bread-butter-omlet-coffee for 4, they took on the average 45 minutes everyday. c) Climbing the stairs to reach the room after a stiff climb from taxi-stand to the Mall (and doing that several times a day) is quite tough for the city-bred people. d) The wifi was so moody - it is only available from few specific spots of the sitting room. But on the other hand the staff was quite helpful. We had to extend our stay there beyond the booked period due to some last minute issue. This extension happened quite easily with just a phone call from the room. And though our checkout was at 12 Noon, they kept our luggage in the left-luggage room, allowed us to use the same room's toilet at around 2 PM before we left Darjeeling for NJP. So considering everything, I would give it 4 rating out of 5. |
