Mandarmani - Q & A

Ask a question on Mandarmani

Anyesha from Kolkata writes (February 26, 2013):

Hi,

I am planning to visit Mandarmoni with my family between 9-11th March. I was wondering if AC rooms will be absolutely necessary during this time of the year. Also required some suggestions on good hotels. My budget is 2000 per night. The requirement for the hotel is that the rooms should be sea facing and the hotel should be close to beach. Kindly suggest.

Thanks in advance!
Dear Anyesha:

AC is not necessary in the second week of March. Good sea view rooms are available for Rs 2000 per day.

Partho Banerjee from Kolkata writes (March 18, 2011):

Hi Kolahal,

Your site is really good, providing almost all sorts of information required about Mandarmoni. However, in your Map and Direction section of the site, Raktim Banerjee wrote that his car got stuck in the sand at the junction of road ending at Dadan Patrabar and the beach and he had to shell out money to the locals for helping him out; he had also given a photograph. I plan to visit Mandarmani during April with my family. It will be of great help if you can kindly let me know whether the road condition is same as described by Mr. Raktim and is it ok for a hatchback like ALTO to negotiate the sand slope mentioned at Dadan Patrabar - sea beach junction?

Thanks a lot.
Warm Regards,

Partho.
Anim Sarkar, Manager, EcoVilla Resort, answers
(March 29, 2011):

Dear Mr. Partho:

Greetings from EcoVilla!!!

I have carefully looked at the photograph of a car getting stuck in sand provided by Mr. Raktim Banerjee. As far as I know, at this time (March 2011) starting from my resort on Mandarmani beach there is no place where a car can get stuck in sand. Mandarmani beach is covered by hard sand and there is no chance for a car to get stuck.

But during the rainy season a driver should have good knowledge of the road. That time there is a chance to get stuck if you drive on mud.

In April, there should be no chance of getting stuck in mud. Just be aware of tide timings and avoid driving on the beach during that time. For your information, I see many small cars like Tata Nano roaming here and there on Mandarmani beach everyday. I do not think there is any problem in Mandarmani for a small car in particular.

If you have any more questions, please give me a call. Have a nice day!

  1. Is the weather (temperature) ok during this time?
  2. Can we go for a long drive .. how is the road conditon from Chowlkhola?
  3. Do I need to book a hotel beforehand or can I reach Mandarmani and then choose one?

Dear Mr. Kaushik:

Greetings from EcoVilla!!!

  1. On April 15th the weather of Mandarmoni is expected to be a little hot during the day. But the evening should be comfortable with a relaxing cool breeze from the Bay of Bengal.
  2. The road from Chowlkhola to the beach is good.
  3. Since the drive from Kolkata to Mandarmoni is about 200 K.M., I suggest that you book a room before you arrive. So you can relax in your room after your long drive.
We will be happy if you stay at EcoVilla. Our room tariff and detailed information on EcoVilla are given in Kolahal EcoVilla page

Dear Sonali,

Greetings from Digante.

During that time frame that you are interested it is Poila Boishakh. During major long weekend holidays we arrange a composite holiday package. We have arranged Poila Boishakh Utsaab this year as well. This allows us to craft a fun filled value-added experience for our guest. Having a composite event which includes lodging, food (lunch and dinner buffet), an extravagant fireworks show and live music performance, allows us to provide a complete experience and manage the event much more efficiently and effectively. This also allows us to pass on the group discounts to each guest accordingly.

www.digante.com. There are three style of rooms in the cottage and we have AC option as well. The price of the package is based on your choice of the room style. In the cottage style ground floor is 4600.00 (3 days 2 night for 2 person) and first floor cottage rooms are 5200.00 (3 days 2night for 2 person). The tariff includes as mentioned above in the first paragraph. Please discuss with me your requirement. I would be able to suggest the best option which fits your needs. Or you can provide us with your contact number where we can reach you as well.

I am very sure you will like your experience. Looking forward to have your family at our resort. I am sure you will enjoy your stay. Welcome to your home.

Have a great day. Take care.

It is a small and quiet resort. It is ideal for a family that wants to have a quiet and relaxing time in Mandarmani beach.

Hello Kolahal Team,

I am planning for a trip to Mandarmani on 18th of Dec, 2011. My friends told me that in Mandarmani current used to go off for 2–4 hours per day when they had gone. Please confirm whether it still happens or not, because I am going with my family and there is a little kid, so it will be a big problem to handle. If current goes off then can you give me an idea when it goes off? Is it at the night time or morning or evening? (I'll be staying in Samudra Bilas or Samudra Sakshi). Is there any facility of generator? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Rakes:

There are no electrical power supply lines in Mandarmani. All hotels have generators. Hence electrical power is not available for four hours a day. They run the generators for 20 hours and keep them idle for four hours. Generally two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. If you like us to make us your hotel reservation, please send us an e–mail to shchdh@gmail.com. We will send you the details of the power supply situation in the relevant resort.

We are planning to go to Mandarmani on 15–Dec–2011. I am trying to call at Samudra Sakshi's number provided by you, but they are not picking up my calls. I have tried several times in different time as well. I got another number from another site, but from there I have been told that this resort has been sold to another owner. So can you please provide a correct number and also please confirm the current rate which you provided for this resort is correct or not. We need 2 double bed rooms.

Hello Dipayan:

At one time the telephone number given in kolahal.com was correct. I called that number and the person who picked up the phone confirmed that the number belonged to Samudra Sakshi. Then someone sent us a posting stating that Samudra Sakhi would be sold. So it is likely that the resort has been sold and now it has a different number. We do not have the new number. If you like kolahal.com to make your reservation, send an e–mail to shchdh@gmail.com and we will make a reservation according to your requirements.

I have already visited Mandarmani two times before. Once with my family, once with friends.
My question: which one is the best hotel/resort for family visit (with luxury at its best)? And which one is moderate one like visit with friends?

Please mention about the location of the same (ie. End of Danpatrabar road or where Rose valley and Sonar bangla situated).

Thanks & Regards,

Hello Indranil:

Thank you for writing to us. And thank you for sending us reviews in the past. We remember the first review of a resort we received was from you.

For luxury at its best we suggest that you consider The Sana Beach and Rose Valley. We have provided an adequate number of photographs of The Sana Beach in kolahal.com. That should give you a good idea of what it is like.

We consistently receive good reviews of Neel Nirjaney and Hirak Jayanti from kolahal.com visitors. So we suggest that you consider them as less expensive alternatives. Two other resorts you may consider are Ganapati Palace and Eco Villa. We have provided a large number of photographs of all four of these resorts in kolahal.com. Please look at the photographs to arrive at your decision.

All of these resorts are conveniently located near the beach.

If you stay at one of these resorts, please mention to the reservation personnel if kolahal.com is helpful to you in making your decision. And please send us a review.

Hello

I want to visit Mandarmani on 10th April, 2011 with my girlfriend. My query is as I have some prior appointments on Sunday morning, can we just check in during the evening time? Does any hotel have any provision regarding this? And can we visit the beach after the sunset or is it not advised to do so?
Anim Sarkar, Manager, EcoVilla Resort, answers
(April 3, 2011):

Dear Mr. Rony:

Greetings from EcoVilla!!!

For late check in, the booking will be confirmed if the room rent is paid in advance because most of time we see that a guest wanting to check in late does not show up. If that happens then the room remains empty.

Mandarmoni beach is safe after sunset. Since after 10 P.M. the beach becomes less crowded, and most of the resorts are on the beach, we suggest that you enjoy the beach inside a resort after 10 P.M.

If you have any more questions, please give me a call. Have a nice day!

Kush Sharma from Vizag writes (August 9, 2011):

Hi,

First and foremost, three cheers for the team of Kolahal to bring most of the details of hotels at one place, so that one need not have to run after many travel sites, which most of the times do not provide the details about the hotel you want to know. I would like to suggest you few things for making it better and more influential.

1. Arrange the posts in date wise order, so that the latest queries are at the top. It is a bit easy for the traveler if latest queries, reviews etc are at top.

2. Just 4-5 resorts reply to the queries. In that case, it seems as those few are dominating the scene. No doubt they are the better ones and provide the best of facilities, but still, it would be more heartening if most of them participate in this and this also provide the traveler with more options to pick from.

3. Kindly do something to arrange for more traveler reviews on some of the hotels.

4. Put up something, so that one can compare and choose from the few hotels they have shortlisted.

Now regarding my travel plans. I'll be travelling to Mandarmani on the 24th of September with my girlfriend. The stay can be of 2N/3N. It's not fixed. My budget per day is around INR 1800-2500. I would like to get in a hassle free and peaceful hotel. The rooms should be sea facing. If I can get a room with a refrigerator in the room and a bathtub in the bathroom, that will be an additional bonus. Apart from this, I would like to know that some cities and hotels in some part of the country have issues with unmarried couples. So kindly let me know what is the scene here in Mandarmani.

And apart from the resorts and hotels, I would be grateful if the team of Kolahal also suggest me something. Thanks.

Warm Regards,

Kush

We are a resort on a 5 acre property and we have structure only on 1/3 of the area, the rest is open area. We have a beautiful jhoubon in the front where we have installed hammock swings. Our 2011 published tariff is in the Kolahal Digante Page.

We don’t have any issues with unmarried couples, as long as both of you provide us with copy of individual identity proof [photo, address] (voter id card, driver’s license, pan card) we are good. We do maintain this for every guest for security and safety purposes for our guest and our resort staff.

I am pretty sure that our resort will fit into your requirements quite well. It's not going to be spending time in a hotel/resort, it's spending time at your own house, except you don't need to clean and cook, all served with the spice of smile and love.

Welcome back to your home, Digante.
Looking forward to talk to you.
Have a great Day. Take care.

Kolahal is really a very helpful site for travelling to Mandarmani. I am planning to take my senior parents to Mandarmani in April - I would like a hotel with a suitable location so that they can just sit on the porch/in room and enjoy the sea.

I know Eco Villa is right on the beach but it does not have any AC room - so a bit concerned if it gets too hot.
May I find what I am looking for in Anutri or JP Resorts?
It would be great if you can provide a map of hotels on the beach - does not have to be exact, but will give us some idea.

Thanks,

Nabanita

Dear Mr. Banerjee,

Thank you for your query. Greetings from Digante.

We do hearty welcome you and your family to spend some quality vacation time with Team Digante at Mandarmoni Beach Resort, Digante: Your Home Away From Home.

I would request you to look at our photo-album at www.digante.com. It's situated on the beach, spread on a 5 acre land, with a jhoubon in the front with sand dunes. We retained pristine beauty of the sea side yet landscaped with the feel of openness. As one of our guests writes in the review "I liked the fact that you will get the serenity and the sea within the boundary of the resort." (Kolahal Digante Page)

Our tariff are given on the same page as above. We do have special weekday tariffs (off from the published tariff charges).

Thank you for your query. Greetings from Digante.

Unfortunately 19th is the problem. We are fully booked on 19th. Very sorry about this.

Two options are:

  • a) If possible suggest 17th and 18th
  • b) Move the date to 25th and 26th
Tariff:
  • c) Tariff would be 2300.00 (4 person : 2 double bed AC accommodation)/room
  • d) Total for 2 rooms for 2 days: 9200.00 ( 575.00 Rs per person per day for lodging)
If it is option (a) there would be discount of 10% for the first day, since that is a weekday. So the tariff for the first option would be in total: 8440.00 (527.00 Rs per person per day for lodging).

Dear Mr. Jayanta,

Welcome to Mandarmani. There are several choices while staying at Mandarmoni which provides different level of values, some provide closeness to the ocean overlooking the waves few hundred feet away from the balcony or the coziness of the bed. While some provides the quietness by preserving the serenity of the virgin beach, Some provides the luxury by the sea. Other secures the simplicity with the basics. As such it is quite possible to visit the same place yet experience different facets of holiday experience, and that is Mandarmoni.

Hi!

I am from Delhi and coming to Kolkata this weekend to visit my relatives. I am looking forward to visit Mandarmani on 1st March 2010 for 2 nights i.e. checkout on 3rd March.

We shall be 6 adults and 2 kids below 5 years. Looking for a cottage type accommodation for all people under one roof at a budget not exceeding 5-6K per night including breakfast.

I hope that during that time AC will not be required in Mandarmani. But I want very good spacious accommodation with separate living room and balcony and sea view.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Rooms are available for the dates you requested for. My suggestion would be first floor cottage style, which has a balcony overlooking the panoramic view of the sea. For your purposes two rooms would be better, which is within the same duplex cottage block side by side. For 2 rooms the tariff will be well within your budget (Rs 2860.00 /per night). AC is not required during your stay dates. We have an on-site restaurant where you can order the breakfast of your choice separately from the room tariff, which will still be within your budget.

It's not going to be spending time in a hotel/resort, it's spending time at your own house, except you don't need to clean and cook, all served with the spice of smile and love.

Dear Mr. Kaushik,

Thank you for your query. Greetings from Digante.

We do hearty welcome you and your family to spend some quality vacation time with Team Digante at Mandarmoni Beach Resort, Digante: Your Home Away From Home.

We need to know the dates of your travel to determine the availability. Also by package tour there are different way to plan it. It could be door to door including car-service, food, lodging, site-seeing OR food, lodging and site-seeing OR even food and lodging only. While on package our food is always served as buffett according to a pre-determined and agreed upon menu. So you can see that without having the parameters its is very hard to determine the actual charge. Our 2011 published tariff is in the Kolahal Digante page.

Hi,

This site is really informative on Mandarmoni.

There are lots of hotels listed in the site and it would be of great help if some impartial review or ratings is done by you for the various hotels and published in this site such that we can take right decision on staying.

Regards

Anindya
Hey Anindya:

Thank you for keeping Mandarmani on your mind.
The reviews we receive from the visitors of Kolahal are a form of rating. I would prefer a resort with a good review. We have no reason to believe that the reviews are not impartial.

If a visitor disagrees with a review she/he can write a response. There is a review of Hotel Dreamland from a visitor who disagreed with an existing review and clearly stated it. In the Sana Beach page there is a management response to a review. Thus, Kolahal visitors can hear both sides of a story.

A significant part of a resort description in Kolahal is intended to be visitor reviews. The reviews are prominently displayed in each page. That is why the site is called Kolahal.

We do not have reviews for all resorts included in Kolahal. But it will happen, sooner or later. We receive reviews regularly, and post them in Kolahal.

At this time (June, 2011) more than 100 visitors view Kolahal pages everyday. Many of them make their resort choices based on the contents in Kolahal. Out of the more than 100 visitors a day, very few send us reviews. We encourage everybody to send reviews. That helps other visitors to make the right decision.
